You have a wonderful gift: In your closet, dresser and storage boxes. . . . . . .
For a special person: Yourself, your husband, son, daughter, grandchild, friend . .
A Memory t-shirt quilt!
I love to make, to have a hand in making, and to teach how to make T-shirt quilts and Memory items. They have so much meaning - for you, family members or friends. No matter how they are made, t-shirts quilts are usually meant to be used. You can wrap up in a quilt to keep warm both in body and spirit. Some though are placed on a wall so that you can remember a special time or event. Memory pillows can also be used or placed in a special place, to bring a smile to your face and memory
In the example gallery below , you can see a sampling of my own and of clients’ quilts that I have made from beginning to end. Some also came to me as tops and I did the quilting, and a few were made by students from the classes that I have taught.
Classes:
Because I do like them so, I also teach classes about t-shirt and memory quilts. I have two formats: A one session “Just How do I Begin” class and a 3 session “Let’s Make a T-shirt Quilt class.
Preparing the shirts requires no sewing so you can have “a hand” in your cozy, “handmade” gift if sewing is not your thing! In the one session class, I will discuss and guide you thru all the steps of the process. You do what you can. Go as far as you want. If you get “Stuck”, I will encourage you thru to finish or I can finish the quilt or give you names of others who can. In the 3 session class, together we will make a finished quilt to be that great gift of love. In either format, if you do sew, I will share tips that I have found to make the process easier and the finished quilt special. And I always learn things from you!
Individual or Group class (limit 6):
One Session Class: Learn all about t-shirt quilts, how to prepare the shirts and all materials needed. Bring a shirt to work on. A supply list is given several weeks before the class. Cost of class includes discussion, handouts, etc., and stabilizer to actually prepare a block from the shirt you bring . . . .and I supply some snacks!!
Three Session Class: First class as above, 2nd & 3rd spent actually cutting, sewing, etc. Sewing machines as well as other supplies need to be brought to class. A supply list is sent several weeks before the class.
Call 556-0755 for cost and class date/time.

First t-shirt quilt I made using elementary school shirts

Can't see the top and bottom but made with animal shirts and cut out the "bear hug" from son's shirt, appliqued to the bottom.

Son's collection of Hard Rock Cafe shirts

Grandma made top for an athletic granddaughter. Her name is Kennedy.

It was fun to quilt in some sports balls along the border of the Kennedy's quilt!

This memory quilt had only one large t-shirt block on the front. The rest was simply pieced "brick" blocks.

Memory items do not have to be cut. This quilt was going to be hung in the home.

This quilt was for new baby made from mom & dad's t-shirts!

To remember a granddaughter's swim meets. They made the top together!

Mom had made for grown son. I used the shirt tags as small blocks along sashing.

Mom had this made so that daughter could wrap up in late father's love.

Memory quilt for wife.......

......for son .

Pharmacy School shirts. We found perfect fabric for borders and backing! Size - King.

To remember a son's bicycle days. Another big quilt.

School quilts are ALWAYS popular as graduation gifts. University of Virginia

This Virginia Tech top was great fun to work on!

University of South Carolina

During class where I taught the grid system layout, Mom made son a quilt using his baby & toddler clothes

Mom's daughter got a quilt also from the grid layout system class.

One of 3 from the same customer that I quilted in 2022. Each block was free motion quilted individually with monoploy thread on top.

I made this his memory quilt to honor my customer's mother. She loved the beach. The top was made from clothes and accessories she wore on the many beach trips with her family.

The quilting design reminded us of tropical flowers and vines. I used monopoly thread.

My customer went to Bridgewater College. She rough cut the shirts and I made the top based on a grid system to use as many shirts as possible

The quilt ended up being almost a queen size quilt

She used to doodle flowers in her notebooks. We used backing material to put a frame around the top.

This pic shows the back and binding of the quilt. She is going to definately use this quilt!
Block “map” I made for his collage grid tshirt quilt layout
